french architect paul coudamy designed a new office space for beartech
an internet hosting office in paris. the ‘bears cave’ is organized in three different
spaces  for working, leisure and meeting areas. the back space is emphasized
by parisian rock and brick walls creating a solid and mineral atmosphere.
a honeycomb cardboard bench creates a low separation between the meeting room

and the working spaces. the cavern walls are created using wood waste pieces

collected in dumpsters, sidewalks and wastelands.

For more info and pictures, check the full post out on designboom. Also, the other day I was downtown and was walking near Anthropologie and dude – they have a pretty awesome storefront display going on right now, that is very similar to this. Except, from a friend who worked on it, it apparently was made of wasted wood that was purchased. $1000 worth of wood, to be specific, so the store does not plan to make it any larger.

Edit: I’ve had a change of heart, for a lot of reasons. So, see you in the fall.

Indisposed Show in NYC: Opening Thursday Night!

Featuring work by UArts ID sophomores Meg Talley, Lorenzo Buffa, and Melissa MacNair through Philadelphia's own MIO!

“What: An off-site design exhibition taking place in New York during the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), InDisposed highlights the twin dichotomies that define contemporary design today: sustainability versus wastefulness, and preciousness versus mass production. To help spark a thoughtful and lively dialogue about these issues, we invited innovative thinkers in a range of media—from furniture and graphic designers to fine artists and musicians—to envision an eco-friendly design that addresses notions of disposability, waste, and/or wastefulness. We challenged them to create pieces that are made from environmentally sustainable materials, portable (considering the object’s intended use), able to be disposed of in a responsible and convenient way, and conceivably able to be mass-produced. At the end of the show, all pieces will be ceremoniously recycled, upcycled, composted, or otherwise responsibly disposed of.

Where: The show will take place at Studio-X, a Soho extension of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.

When: Friday, May 15, through Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Studio-X is open to the public from 10 AM to 6 PM daily, Monday through Saturday.”
